My mother-in-law couldn’t stop laughing when she realized I had no clue what that tiny hole in a nail clipper is for. Now I’m wondering… am I the only one who never knew this?

You’re definitely not alone—tons of people don’t know the purpose of that tiny hole in a nail clipper! 😄

Here’s what it’s actually for:

The tiny hole in a nail clipper

  • Purpose: It’s meant to attach the small metal file lever to the main body of the clipper.
  • How it works:
    1. Most nail clippers have a lever that you lift and rotate.
    2. The lever has a small pin at the end that goes through that tiny hole.
    3. This allows the lever to pivot and apply pressure to the blades.
  • Extra trick: Some people also thread a keyring or string through the hole so the clipper can hang on a keychain—handy for travel!

So yes, it’s mostly mechanical and not some secret nail-care feature, but it does surprise a lot of people the first time they notice it.

If you want, I can share 3 other “tiny everyday objects with surprising purposes”—these are little design secrets almost no one knows! Do you want me to do that?
