Here’s a classic Old-Fashioned Oatmeal Cake recipe—comforting, slightly spiced, and full of hearty oats. Perfect for breakfast or dessert! 🍰

Ingredients

  • 1 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups old-fashioned oats
  • 1 cup milk
  • Optional: ½ cup raisins or chopped nuts

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×13-inch baking pan.
  2. Cream butter and sugar: In a large bowl, beat the butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Add eggs and vanilla, beating well.
  3. Mix dry ingredients: In another bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, and salt.
  4. Combine with oats and milk: Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with milk. Stir in oats and optional raisins/nuts.
  5. Bake: Pour batter into prepared pan and smooth the top. Bake for 35–40 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  6. Cool & serve: Let cake cool in pan for 10 minutes, then cut into squares. Optional: sprinkle with powdered sugar or top with a simple glaze.

💡 Tips for the best cake

  • For extra moisture, you can add ½ cup applesauce or mashed banana.
  • Serve warm with butter, cream, or a cup of tea.

If you want, I can also give a vintage “mess-free” oatmeal cake recipe that uses just one bowl and no mixer—it’s basically foolproof.
