Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding

Posted on March 16, 2026 by Admin

Old-Fashioned Rice Pudding is a classic, comforting dessert made with simple pantry ingredients. It’s creamy, lightly sweet, and often flavored with vanilla and cinnamon. 🍚🥛

Ingredients

  • ¾ cup uncooked white rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 cups milk
  • ⅓–½ cup sugar (to taste)
  • 1 egg (optional, for extra creaminess)
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon or nutmeg
  • Pinch of salt
  • Optional: raisins

Instructions

  1. Cook the rice:
In a saucepan, combine rice and water. Bring to a boil, then reduce heat and simmer until the rice is tender (about 15 minutes).
  2. Add milk and sugar:
Stir in the milk, sugar, and salt. Cook on low heat, stirring often, until the mixture becomes creamy (about 15–20 minutes).
  3. Add egg (optional):
Beat the egg in a small bowl. Slowly mix in a little hot rice mixture to warm it, then stir it back into the pot and cook for 2–3 minutes.
  4. Finish the pudding:
Stir in butter, vanilla, cinnamon, and raisins if using.
  5. Serve:
Serve warm or chilled, with extra cinnamon sprinkled on top.

Tips for the Best Rice Pudding

  • Use whole milk for a richer texture.
  • Stir frequently so it doesn’t stick.
  • It will thicken more as it cools.
